2010 Transparency in Pharmaceutical Purchasing Solutions (TIPPSSM)
- Certified Pharmacy Benefit Managers
TIPPS standards are designed to ensure pharmacy benefit services are structured to encourage the
use of the most cost-effective, clinically appropriate drugs available. Each year, HR Policy Association’s
Pharmaceutical Coalition formulates a uniform definition of transparency and annually certifies and recertifies
organizations that agree to TIPPS standards. For 2010, the following PBMs have committed to meet TIPPS standards,
providing employers with the most rigorous level of drug purchasing transparency available in the marketplace.
Additionally, in 2010 Aetna, Humana Pharmacy Solutions, MedImpact, Prime Therapeutics, and RESTAT have agreed to provide
actual acquisition cost pricing for mail order drugs. This actual cost transparency will allow employers to benefit from the
actual inventory cost that these PBMs pay for drugs.
